Personal Independence Payment (PIP): rates, assessment and how to claim

SYMUpdated Benefits

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with the extra costs of living with a long-term health condition or disability. It's not means-tested, so your income and savings don't affect eligibility.

PIP Payment Rates 2026/27

PIP has two components: Daily Living (for help with everyday tasks) and Mobility (for getting around). Each can be paid at standard or enhanced rates, giving you flexibility based on your needs.
  • Daily Living Standard: £76.70/week
  • Daily Living Enhanced: £114.60/week
  • Mobility Standard: £30.30/week
  • Mobility Enhanced: £80.00/week

How PIP Is Assessed

PIP is awarded based on how your condition affects you, not the condition itself. You'll complete a form and possibly attend an assessment. The assessment looks at 12 activities across daily living and mobility, scoring points for each.

How to Claim

Call the PIP claim line on 0800 917 2222 to start a claim. You'll receive a form to fill in detailing how your condition affects you. You may be asked to attend an assessment. Claims can take several months to process.
