The 52-week savings challenge is simple: save £1 in week 1, £2 in week 2 and keep adding a pound a week until you put away £52 in week 52. By the end you have £1,378. This page does the 2027 part for you, with a real date for every week, how much each month asks of you and the running total you should have at each point.
If you are new to the challenge, our full guide to the 52-week challenge explains why it works and where to keep the money. This page is the 2027 calendar to go with it.
How the 2027 calendar works
1 January 2027 is a Friday, so this plan runs Friday to Friday. Week 1 starts on Friday 1 January and week 52 starts on Friday 24 December. Fifty-two weeks is 364 days, so the challenge finishes on Thursday 30 December, a day before the year ends.
Friday suits a lot of people because it is a common weekly payday and the end of the working week. If you would rather save on Mondays, start on Monday 4 January instead. Every date moves three days later, the weekly amounts stay the same and you still finish with £1,378, just on Sunday 2 January 2028.
The total comes from adding 1 + 2 + 3 and so on up to 52, which is 52 × 53 ÷ 2 = 1,378. Each week you save the week number in pounds.
- Week 1 starts Friday 1 January 2027: save £1
- Week 13 starts Friday 26 March: £91 saved by the end of that week
- Week 26 starts Friday 25 June: £351 saved, a quarter of the total
- Week 37 starts Friday 10 September: £703 saved, the first week you pass halfway
- Week 52 starts Friday 24 December: save £52 and finish on £1,378
The 2027 challenge month by month
Weeks are counted in the month they start in. January, April, July and October 2027 each have five Fridays, so those months ask for five payments. The others have four.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 1 to 5 | 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 | £15 | £15 |

| March | 10 to 13 | 5, 12, 19, 26 | £46 | £91 |

| December | 49 to 52 | 3, 10, 17, 24 | £202 | £1,378 |
The shape is worth knowing before you start. January asks for £15 in total. October asks for £210, the most of any month, because it has five weeks near the top of the scale. November and December need £186 and £202, landing at the same time as Christmas shopping. If that clash worries you, look at the reverse version below.

The reverse 52-week challenge for 2027
The reverse challenge flips the order: £52 in week 1, £51 in week 2, down to £1 in the week of Christmas Eve. You save the same £1,378, but the heavy weeks come in winter and spring and December costs almost nothing.
| Month | Weeks | Save this month | Saved so far |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 1 to 5 | £250 | £250 |
| February | 6 to 9 | £182 | £432 |
| March | 10 to 13 | £166 | £598 |
| April | 14 to 18 | £185 | £783 |
| May | 19 to 22 | £130 | £913 |
| June | 23 to 26 | £114 | £1,027 |
| July | 27 to 31 | £120 | £1,147 |
| August | 32 to 35 | £78 | £1,225 |
| September | 36 to 39 | £62 | £1,287 |
| October | 40 to 44 | £55 | £1,342 |
| November | 45 to 48 | £26 | £1,368 |
| December | 49 to 52 | £10 | £1,378 |
January is the hardest month at £250, which is a lot straight after Christmas. In return you pass halfway in week 16 (the week starting Friday 16 April), and the whole of December needs only £10. Our 52-week challenge guide covers the reverse version and who it suits best.
The 50p version: £689 by December
If £52 in a single week is too much right now, halve every amount. Save 50p in week 1, £1 in week 2, £1.50 in week 3 and so on up to £26 in week 52. Same dates, same habit, and you finish 2027 with £689.
| Month | Save this month | Saved so far |
|---|---|---|
| January | £7.50 | £7.50 |
| February | £15 | £22.50 |
| March | £23 | £45.50 |
| April | £40 | £85.50 |
| May | £41 | £126.50 |
| June | £49 | £175.50 |
| July | £72.50 | £248 |
| August | £67 | £315 |
| September | £75 | £390 |
| October | £105 | £495 |
| November | £93 | £588 |
| December | £101 | £689 |
You can move up to the full challenge part-way through. If things feel easy by the spring, switch to whole pounds from the next week. You will finish somewhere between £689 and £1,378.
Making it fit your pay
The challenge is weekly, but most people in the UK are paid monthly. There are two easy ways to make it fit.
- Move each month's total on payday. Use the month table above: when you are paid, move that month's figure into savings in one go and tick off the weeks as they pass.
- Flatten it. £1,378.00 spread over 12 months is £114.83 a month (eleven months at £114.83 and £114.87 in the last month makes exactly £1,378). You lose the gradual ramp, but every month costs the same.
- Weekly or fortnightly pay: save on the Friday you are paid. Fortnightly, cover two weeks at once, for example weeks 1 and 2 (£3) on 1 January.
- If a week goes wrong, catch up across the next few weeks rather than in one painful lump. Being a few pounds behind matters far less than stopping.
Where to keep the money
Keep the challenge money away from your current account so it does not get spent by accident. An easy access savings account or easy access Cash ISA in your own name works well, because you can pay in every week and still reach the money in an emergency. Our guide to high-interest savings accounts explains what to compare. £1,378 is well inside every ISA limit, including the £12,000 cash ISA limit for under-65s that starts on 6 April 2027.
If you like physical cash, the 52-envelope version uses the same amounts with one envelope per week. Bank it every month or so rather than keeping a growing pile at home.
Tracking it through the year
The challenge is easy in January and hard in October, and most people who give up do it in the second half. Tracking helps. Our free 52-week challenge calculator shows your total for any start date and amount. SYM, our app, sets the challenge up as a schedule, reminds you on your saving day, tells you the amount and keeps your streak going when you tap to say it is done. It does the reverse order too.
Want something to run alongside it? The 1p challenge for 2027 adds £667.95 with a few pence a day, and our Christmas savings plan for 2027 keeps December separate.
