Frequently Asked Questions
When should I tell my employer I'm pregnant?+
Legally, by the 15th week before your due date (around 25 weeks). Earlier is often better for planning, but it's your choice. You can't be discriminated against for being pregnant.
Can I work during maternity leave?+
You can work up to 10 'Keeping in Touch' (KIT) days without affecting your SMP. These are optional and must be agreed with your employer. You'll receive your normal daily rate on top of SMP.
What about Shared Parental Leave?+
You can share up to 50 weeks of leave and 37 weeks of pay with your partner. This allows both parents to take time off together or alternately. Check eligibility on gov.uk.
